今作「call, overhaul, and roll」は、前作「hemoglobin」以来、約4年ぶりの写真集になります。

効率の良さが圧倒的正義になりつつある現代社会の中で「迷う」ということのポジティブな意味を追いかけ、実際に自らが、ならば迷うだけ迷ってみせよう、という決意のもと小見山の住む横浜から札幌まで、バイクに跨り、彷徨い寄り道を繰り返しながら走り抜けた1500キロメートルのロードトリップの一部始終となります。

閉塞した社会からの脱出、死別した親友への葬い、徹底的な物理的孤独への願望、そしてバイクだからこそ感じられる風の肌触りへの欲求…。様々な感情に後押しされ飛び出したこの旅は、小見山にとって写真家ではなく一人の人間としての逃避行であり、決して撮影そのものを目的としてはいませんでした。

その結果、記録として残していたこれらの写真たちは、これまで以上に小見山自身の純粋な好奇心を色濃く浮き彫りにするものとなりました。

＜小見山峻コメント＞

いつの間にか、道を間違えることや遠回りすることを悪手かのように避けてばかりの毎日になっていました。迷うことなんて、下手をすれば食事の回数よりも多い代謝のひとつだと言うのに。ならば今こそ迷えるだけ迷ってみせようと。馬鹿げた時間の使い方に踏み切ったのです。思いつきのような衝動に駆られ、バイクのハンドルに安物の方位磁針を取り付け、それを頼りに北を目指しました。

写真を生業にして、あれやこれやと格好をつけ、撮る理由をでっち上げている毎日ですが、その実、つまるところは「僕はここにいた」と伝えたいだけ。

何事もなければ、まだ何十年と生活は続いてゆくと信じています。その折々で、「僕はここにいた」をただ愚直に積み重ねていくのでしょう。この本のように。

踏み出せない誰かに、何故か帰りたくない夕方に、太陽がもどかしい朝に、毛布にしがみつく真夜中に、道に迷うあなたに。

そして天国にも届くよう願いを込めて。

This photo book "call, overhaul, and roll" is the first photo book in about 4 years since the last one "hemoglobin".

In today's society where efficiency is becoming the overwhelming righteousness.

In pursuit of the positive meaning of "getting lost," Komiyama decided to get lost himself, and traveled from Yokohama, where he lives, to Sapporo. This is the story of a 1,500-kilometer road trip on a motorcycle, taking many detours along the way.
Escape from a closed society, a funeral for a bereaved best friend, a desire for total physical solitude, and a desire for the feel of the wind that only a motorcycle can provide.... For Komiyama, this trip, driven by a variety of emotions, was an escape not as a photographer but as a human being, and was never intended to be a photo shoot in itself.

As a result, these photographs, which were left as a record, reveal more strongly than ever Komiyama's own pure curiosity.

＜Shun Komiyama`s comment＞

Before I knew it, I was constantly avoiding taking wrong turns and detours as if it were a bad thing. Getting lost is one of the metabolic processes of the mind, which is more than the number of times we eat, if we're not careful. So now was the time to get lost as much as I could. I decided to make a foolish use of my time. Driven by an impulse that felt like an idea, I attached a cheap compass to the handlebars of my motorcycle and headed north, relying on it.

I make a living from photography, dressing this way and that up and making up reasons for taking pictures every day, but in reality, all I really want to say is, "I was here".

I believe that if nothing happens to me, my life will continue for decades to come. I believe that life will go on for decades if nothing happens to me, and I will just keep on accumulating "I was here". Just like this book.

To someone who can't make up their mind, to the evening when you don't want to go home for some reason, to the morning when the sun looks frustrating, to the midnight when you are clinging to the blanket, to you in the maze.

And even to heaven.
